The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has strongly criticized Iran for its decision to expel senior UN inspectors from its nuclear facilities. Director General Rafael Grossi described Iran’s actions as “disproportionate and unprecedented” and expressed deep regret over the move. Iran made this decision in response to allegations from Western powers that it was secretly enriching uranium.
According to Grossi, Iran informed the IAEA that it had expelled several experienced inspectors who were involved in monitoring Tehran’s compliance with the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). IAEA inspectors had discovered these traces late last year. The agency’s report revealed that some particles had been enriched to 83.3% purity, just below the threshold for nuclear weapons use. Iran repeatedly denies seeking nuclear weapons and maintains that its atomic research is solely for peaceful purposes.
