In an interview with New York Magazine, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued a warning about the potential consequences of former President Donald Trump returning to the White House. Pelosi stated that if Trump were to become president again, the United States would cease to exist.
When asked about the possibility of Trump becoming president again, Pelosi implored the reporter not to even entertain the thought. She emphasized that if Trump were to return to the White House, it would be a “criminal enterprise.” Pelosi expressed her belief that the United States would not be able to survive under such circumstances.
Pelosi went on to take credit for predicting Trump’s actions following his loss in the 2020 election. She boasted about her role in establishing the January 6 Commission, which was formed to investigate the events of the Capitol riot and determine the extent of Trump’s involvement. Pelosi stated that she knew Trump had committed a crime on that day, but acknowledged that the court would need to determine what could be proven.
The Democratic representative’s comments came in response to a post by Trump on his Truth Social platform, in which he referred to Pelosi as a “sick & demented psycho.” Pelosi had previously described Trump as a “scared puppy” after he was indicted on multiple conspiracy charges related to his contestation of the 2020 election results.
Senator Ted Cruz, a Republican from Texas, also weighed in on the situation, warning that there was a real possibility of Trump being convicted. Cruz asserted that facts and laws did not matter in this case, suggesting that there was a deep-rooted hatred towards Trump from some individuals involved in the proceedings.
Critics of Pelosi have accused her of amassing significant wealth through insider trading using her husband’s stock trades. Despite never earning more than $223,500 during her time as House speaker, Pelosi and her husband’s combined net worth is believed to exceed $200 million. One particular trade made by her husband reportedly earned them $5.3 million ahead of a critical vote by the House Judiciary Committee in 2021.
Pelosi’s remarks have drawn attention to the intense division and animosity that still exists between Trump and his political opponents. With the possibility of Trump running for office again in the future, the ongoing feud between the former president and members of the Democratic Party shows no signs of dissipating.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, it remains to be seen what impact Trump’s potential return to the White House would have on the United States. Pelosi’s warning serves as a reminder of the deep-seated concerns and fears held by some regarding the future of the country under Trump’s leadership.
